Overview
"Arsenic and Old Lace" was written by Joseph Kesselring in 1939 during the golden age of screwball comedy. It played 1,444 performances on Broadway in its original run, but is perhaps best remembered by Frank Capra's 1944 film starring Cary Grant. The spinster Brewster sisters, played by Mary Kate Killen and Abby Blauvelt, are sweet old ladies whose charitable work has taken a homicidal turn. The three Brewster nephews include Teddy, played by Patrick Gulick, who thinks he's Teddy Roosevelt, Mortimer, a respected drama critic played by Kevin Conrad, and Jonathan, played by Nick Kinsey, who has had more than a questionable career. Mortimer and Jonathan come home to visit their aunts and discover their new hobby, with hilarious consequences. Throw in Mortimer's nosy fiancée Elaine, played by Skylar Jensen, crazy plastic surgeon Dr. Einstein, played by Reece Trombley, and a few officers of the law, and this play is sure to have the audience roaring with laughter.
