"Not (Quite) Normal: A Virtual Showcase"
Welcome to our Fall 2020 Virtual Showcase!
The 2020-2021 school year was, in so many ways, an abnormal one. Due to restrictions in place to combat the spread of COVID-19, we were unable to stage our typical Fall Production at PYA. We knew, though, that we couldn’t go so long without doing what we loved most - so we looked to the worldwide theatre community’s response to the pandemic and decided to host a virtual showcase instead!
The process began when students who were interested in participating joined us in reading some potential scripts, providing feedback on the ones they liked most. From there, we chose three one-act plays and held virtual auditions to cast them. We rehearsed virtually for a number of weeks, moving to (safe and socially-distanced) in-person rehearsals in the final two weeks (It was SO exciting for us to be back together with our little family).
When the time came, we recorded all three shows in sections with 2-4 cameras at a time and turned the audio and video over to a team to edit and create the finished products that you can watch today. The result of all our hard work is before you!
Before you start, check out our digital program here to learn a bit more about the production and our cast and crew!
Now sit back, relax, and get ready to laugh!
Show #1: "The Day the Internet Died"
by Ian McWethy and Jason Pizzarello
In today’s technology-driven world, we have everything we need at our fingertips. But what happens if we suddenly...don’t? In this one-act, a small town finds itself suddenly without internet and its inhabitants are forced to compensate - any way they can.

Show #2: "When Bad Things Happen to Good Actors"
by Ian McWethy and Jason Pizzarello
Imagine, for a moment, trying to fit the entirety of The Wizard of Oz into a one-act play. Now imagine everything that could possibly could go wrong with that production. Now imagine it all goes wrong...all of it. That is this show in a nutshell - Every thespian’s worst nightmare!

Show #3: "Bad Auditions by Bad Actors"
by Ian McWethy
A frantic casting director has one mission - to cast this summer’s local production of Romeo & Juliet. Actors are needed to play the leads. A classic play, an involved community of actors, and an “idiot-proof” production - Casting should be no sweat, right?
