Recognizing Student Excellence
Every year, we are fortunate to work with so many awesome young people in our program. For each production, we recognize two students who go above and beyond with two special Drama Club awards:
The Legacy Robe - The Legacy robe is a tradition in many theatre companies, from high school to Broadway. For the PYA Drama Club, it is given to a cast member who has demonstrated, throughout the production process, the best of what it means to be in the PYA Drama Club. The chosen actor exemplifies the qualities that our program values, and often goes above and beyond their expected duties to help out in other aspects of the production, to support their fellow cast members, and to do what needs to be done to put on an amazing production. The recipient is awarded the robe on opening night, and is tasked with adding something to it that represents that particular show before it is awarded again during the next production.
The Katy - In the spring of 2017, we realized that while we recognized excellence in our cast, we had no way of recognizing the critical contributions of our hard-working crew members. Thus, the Katy was born. The award's namesake, Katy Worden, was a phenomenal costumer, who was motivated, reliable, creative, and always there to support our program. Katy was the first recipient of her award which has been given, in every production since, to a crew member who follows in Katy's footsteps. Each recipient of the Katy is tasked with adding something (usually something crazy, zany, or fun) to the award before its next recipient is chosen.
